Chat the weird out

When you leave home to go to university, there are many grey areas you can find yourself in.

The University of Auckland’s Campus Life team wanted to create a campaign that gave students a way to work through these awkward relationship situations.

So we tapped the creature who always has something to say in in awkward silences to become our font of wisdom - a cricket, voiced by comedian James Mustapic. The campaign tackles several relatable awkward scenarios faced by university students, and highlights the importance of addressing the little weird before it becomes a big weird.

Social films encouraged students to open up about their own experiences online, and on-campus posters were updated with these real life scenarios.

Chat the Weird Out was deliberately unbranded, so the campaign can be picked up by other Universities and rolled out across the country throughout the year.
